Both the South Korean General Staff and the Japanese Coast Guard reported on Thursday that North Korea had fired what appears to be a ballistic missile, and that it was headed towards the Sea of Japan. Residents have been warned that the rocket will probably land near the island around 8 a.m. Japanese time, which corresponds to 1 a.m. in Norway. The sea lies between the Korean peninsula and Japan. Hokkaido is home to Sapporo, Japan’s fifth largest city. (© NTB)
