Jakob Asserson Ingebrigtsen just managed to drive his wife to the delivery room – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

– You called me at five minutes past seven. You woke me up and said you had been having contractions since four o’clock. Jakob Asserson Ingebrigtsen overlooks his wife Elisabeth and daughter Filippa. Just two days after they became parents, they welcome news to visit their home in Lura. The running star tells about the hectic day when absolutely everything fell into place. He was in the Swiss St. Moritz when his heavily pregnant wife called on Monday morning and said the birth was fast approaching. – It was exactly five hours until the plane left when she called, so I could train and go home, he says. Went for training Just before 12 o’clock the plane took off from Zurich. At 5 p.m., a little late, he landed at Sola and got home. Half an hour after he entered the door, the couple headed for the delivery room. – Then we were checked and admitted, and then you went and had a track session and came back, says Elisabeth. The birth itself took place on Tuesday morning. Ingebrigtsen does nothing to exaggerate her own role. Moral support was the most important contribution. – I was really only there to help Elisabeth, so that you got through as well as you could. Then I cut the umbilical cord, he says while Elisabeth holds the newborn girl, who makes a big difference in everyday life. – You have a pretty big responsibility for a tiny person who can’t take care of themselves, notes the new father. SAFE AND GOOD: Filippa in mum’s arms. Photo: Fredrik Tombra / news – Proud The morning Filippa was born, Jakob Asserson Ingebrigtsen did something as rare as skip a training session. He definitely feels it was worth it. – How do you feel about the father’s role? – First of all proud, it is very special and in a way to be part of that experience and have your first child. I can see how big it is for Elisabeth too, so it’s first and foremost a lot of fun to take part in. But I know I’ll be very proud, he says. NEW EVERYDAY: Jakob and Filippa. Photo: Ole Andreas Bø / news The timing must also be said to have been perfect, purely sportingly. He managed to win the European Championships in Rome, where he won gold in both the 1,500 and 5,000 metres. The subsequent stay at altitude was also only shortened by two days. Will follow the plan On Friday, he will run 1,500 meters in the NM on his home track in Sandnes, just a couple of kilometers from his family’s home in Lura. Preparations for the Olympics in Paris can then proceed. – For the rest of the season, not much is affected, he says. But it will definitely be different. – It may be that it will be tough, but for now everyone is focused on the work that must be done before the Olympics. And it is something that I prioritize and that I think is important, he says. HISTORICAL: In Rome, Jakob Asserson Ingebrigtsen became the all-time winningest man in EC history. Photo: Vegard Grøtt / BILDBYRÅN No plans are likely to be changed. After the NM, the Diamond League awaits in Monaco on 12 June. Between battles, he stays in Switzerland at an altitude of around 1,800 metres. – I really want to go to a training camp and train well, so that I can compete well and do my best. There always comes a time when you can go home and spend more time with your family, says Ingebrigtsen. Can come to the stadium Maybe Filippa will get to see dad run a competition just a few days old. A trip to the NM stadium in Sandnes may be appropriate. – I hear you have expectations that we will come and watch, and it would have been very nice to make that happen, says Elisabeth to Jakob. But adds: – There is a new boss in the house. So she controls it a bit. But we just have to try to make the best of it. Let’s throw ourselves into it, it’s nice when we first have a race at home.
