The 35-year-old was part of an Italian traveling party of eight people who were in Lyngen to go skiing. Five of them were in the mountains when the landslide in Kvalvikdalen in Lyngen happened. Cazzola lost his life in the avalanche – two others in his entourage were injured, one of them seriously.
