– It may be a good idea to leave work a little earlier, if you have the opportunity, says on-duty meteorologist Marit Berger. During a period of 24 hours, from 5 to 20 cm of snow has been reported in Southern Norway and the southern Eastern Norway. There will be local differences in how much precipitation comes. – It will probably not be so easy to get home in the rush, says traffic operator Jeanett Andresen of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow warning in several places in the country. – It doesn’t take much snow before there are some problems. There is a lot of traffic in the afternoon, says Berger. In southern Eastern Norway, the danger warning begins at 4pm and will last until 7pm on Saturday. It is expected that most of the precipitation will come on Saturday. There may be up to 20 cm of snow in Southern Norway. Along the coast, the precipitation will change to rain during the afternoon. Be prepared that roads can be closed at short notice. Have winter tires on the car. Make sure there is enough electricity or fuel in the car. Keep warm clothes, food and drink in the car, especially if you are going over the mountains or on a long trip. Get familiar with the conditions in which you will be driving. Vegvesen.no/trafikk and the Vegvesen traffic app are important sources of information. In the app, you get a notification if a road is closed or traffic is blocked. There may be convoy driving over the mountain On the mountain, large amounts of wind have been reported and there is a risk of snow drifts. This particularly applies to Langfjella, which runs from Setesdalen in the south and over Hardangervidda. It has been reported that there will be heavy snowfall throughout the weekend. – If you are going to drive over the mountain, you must be prepared that there may be road closures. The danger warning applies to the mountain passes and open areas in the lowlands up to and including Friday evening. – The wind will continue for some time to come, the only question is how long there is available snow on the ground, says on-duty meteorologist Marek Ratajczak. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has on Friday extended the danger warning until Sunday at 1pm for outer parts of Agder. The most precipitation is expected in eastern parts of Agder. There are reports of mild weather coming in towards the coast during the weekend and it is expected that the precipitation will eventually change to rain. Then it can become slippery on the roads if the rain freezes when it meets the cold ground. – Then you have to adjust your speed according to the conditions and keep a distance from the cars in front and behind, says the traffic operator.
