– It went completely black – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

The Olympic-ready pole vaulter stepped in cautiously to control over 5.17 in the first jump during a competition in Poznan, Poland on Sunday, but instead there was a tear. He therefore chose to switch to another staff, but then things went wrong. – That rod became far too soft and broke into four pieces. I guess I land like that … or I don’t know exactly because it went completely black – but I guess I landed nicely on the mat and luckily everything went well, Guttormsen tells news. The 25-year-old landed on his back on the mat, but there is a lot of force involved when a pole breaks. The biggest danger is being injured after being hit by a part. – After you land, you get full of adrenaline and just try to find out how it went, how you feel and what actually happened, says Guttormsen. Pain in the hand He moved the list up to 5.41, but postponed the last two attempts to calm down. – I got a bit of pain in my hand, but I iced it down and tried to continue and jump, but I was a bit mentally drained and a bit put out in a way, he explains. Since the attempts were unsuccessful, Guttormsen was left without a result in the competition. Father and trainer Atle Guttormsen was not present in Poland, but watched excitedly from Norway. DISAPPOINTED: Despite setting a Norwegian record with six meters last season, Guttormsen was unable to make it to the pole vault final in the WC in Budapest last year. Now Sondre has been jumping for many years and this is perhaps the fifth time it has broken, says Atle Guttormsen. – It’s definitely a bit painful today, but it will probably pass after a couple of days, says Sondre Guttormsen the following day. Olympic confidence The USA-based athlete has had a very troubled season. Already last autumn he struggled with a sore Achilles, and when he was due to start the indoor season in February, he re-injured the injury. He managed to do two events outdoors, but just before he was due to go to the Diamond League opening in China in April, Guttormsen suffered a stretch on the front of his thigh. – Now it’s probably been a little over two months, but it feels good, even though you’re always afraid when you’ve had an injury like that, that you’ll get injured again. I have been good and patient, used my time and stood over a few competitions. I’ve been training really well in the last few months, he says. DUO: Sondre Guttormsen followed his brother Simen in a coaching role during the Bislett Games. Photo: NTB Guttormsen withdrew from the European Championships in Rome, but tested in Polish Bydgoszcz on Wednesday last week. There he was left with 5.45 as a result. Little brother Simen came fourth after getting over 5.65 in the second attempt. With that, he is also in the Olympic ranking. And despite a difficult season, Sondre Guttormsen has quite good confidence before the Games in Paris in just over a month. – It is a bit difficult to say, but I think that if things go well in the next few weeks, I am one of those who I believe can fight for the medals. Even though I haven’t jumped events or high for a year, I still think I can fight for medals. Watch and follow the NM in athletics from Sandnes from Thursday to Saturday on news.
