– It’s raw and tough, praises Anders Aukland. The Swedish long-distance star is part of the Norwegian Team Ragde Charge and was at a meeting in Norway last week when she was supposed to see how fast she could run 5000 meters. She already had a best record of 19 minutes from another internal test earlier this year, but this time it went even better at skiErgen. 18.32.5 was finally the impressive time. It is also a world record by around 10 seconds. – We use standardized stake machines, where you can compare yourself with others. It’s like a separate world where you can see the various records, explains Aukland. – Time is absolutely enormous for a woman, says Karstein Johaug. Got a “boost” Larsson himself didn’t think about the time, but his teammates had an overview. LONG RUNNING: Jenny Larsson can bring a world record into the new season. Photo: Magnus Östh/Ski Classics – Karstein and Andreas (Nygård) had control of the numbers, and started to push me. It mostly meant beating myself and I had a good plan for that, but then I noticed that I was much fitter, says the 27-year-old. – I had to dig deep in the last 1,300 metres, and it wasn’t pretty, but I got an extra boost at the end, she adds. Expressen has also mentioned the case, which has been noticed. – It sounds fast. I’ve never tested it myself, but it’s good that skiers set those records, not people who do crossfit or something. Impressive, says national team runner Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget, who himself trains quite a bit on a stair machine. – It inspires me to test myself a bit when I get home to skiErgen. One of the reasons why I don’t do it so much myself is that it is terribly heavy, says Harald Østberg Amundsen. By sending in, among other things, photo evidence and the machine’s memory chip, the world record will now be verified. THE NUMBERS: It went away quickly with Jenny Larsson on the stake machine. Photo: Team Ragde Charge – I thought why not? The confirmation should come soon, and that’s a little extra cool. I hope it gets more people to test themselves in this, says Larsson. – Not quite the same It is not the first world record in the long-distance team. And Aukland, who quit as top runner after last season, has himself been involved in several wild attempts in recent years. – Anyone can go to a training center to try their hand at 5,000 meter staking. It’s not quite the same as skiing, and it’s an advantage to have some weight and punch, but it says a lot about physical capacity, strength and fitness, says the 50-year-old, who helped start Team Ragde in 2007 ON THE PODIUM: Jenny Larsson (th) was third in Marcialonga this winter. Magni Smedås won. Photo: NTB Larsson became part of the long-distance team before last season, and after a few years with several injuries it now looks much better. She came sixth overall in the Ski Classics, and also ran a World Cup race in Davos. The main goal for the winter is to be at the top of the podium again, preferably in the Vasaloppet. – I have had a very good pre-season, have been able to do what I want and have stayed injury-free. This record time is not just luck, it shows in black and white that I have done something right, says Larsson. – It’s heading towards a good season, and it’s fun that she’s taking steps. She has to, after all, to be able to fight against Astrid Øyre Slind. It’s something that motivates, says mentor Anders Aukland.
