– It gives a lot of energy – news Troms and Finnmark

– It is a great pleasure to see that the sun is back after a long cold dark time, says Elen Anna Triumf. She is a reindeer herder in Kautokeino and says that she saw the sun for the first time this year on Saturday. Even though the return of the sun is something she knows happens every winter, it gives her more energy and joy at work in her everyday life. – The best and most important thing for us who work outside in nature is that the working days are a little longer, says Triumf. Brighter times December 22 was the winter solstice – popularly called the “solstice”. From that day on, people slowly moved towards brighter times. But right now it’s going very fast – especially in northern Norway. Tromsø and Kirkenes got the sun back on 15 January, but in practice it takes almost another week before it is visible over the mountains on the horizon. From mid-January to mid-February, the sun gradually shines throughout northern Norway. People in the region are therefore now sharing pictures on social media that they have seen the sun. In Svalbard, you have to wait a little longer. The sun will not be visible there until mid-February. In Vadsø, Kennel Gammerabben reports that they will soon see the sun again. On Monday’s air trip, they could see that the sun was soon back on the horizon. Photo: Kennel Gammerabben Sharing life on social media Together with her sisters Inga Biret Marja, Kari Margrethe, Sara Maret and Lajla Kathrine, Elen Anna Triumf shares glimpses of what life is like as a reindeer herder on the Instagram account “Jenter i reindrift”. The pictures and videos are mainly taken when it is bright and nice outside. – It lights up everyday life, and we want to show our audience that, says Elen Anna Triumf. Although they share glimpses of life in the reindeer herding when the fjord shows its best side, they also try to show what life is like when the Finnmark fjord is at its darkest. – But it won’t be the best photos and it’s not very motivating to take out the phone when it’s minus 30 and you can’t see anything. So that’s why the best and most of our photos are from when it’s light. In Kautokeino, since Saturday, they have been able to see the sun on the horizon if you stand on the right mountain top. Here are some mood pictures from a previous World Cup in mini skiing Photo: Kjell Bendik Pedersen Will celebrate for several days In Honningsvåg in Nordkapp municipality, they also mark the return of the sun. Perleporten cultural center has organized the Sunshine Winter Festival there for several years. The first time they organized the festival was in 2017, but the festival had to take a corona break for two years. This year’s festival is thus the fifth in a row. The festival starts on Wednesday 18 January. Until Sunday 22 January, brighter days are celebrated with concerts, wine tasting and the WC in mini skiing. Producer for the festival, Tore Fosse, says that they want to bring life to what has traditionally been a quiet month in Finnmark, while at the same time marking the sun again appearing on the horizon. Fosse believes that the return of the sun is a big event for people in the north, and that perhaps this could be marked even bigger. – You may forget the dimension of the sun’s return. Reindeer herder Elen Anna Triumf says that they get extra energy from brighter days when they work on the plains. Photo: Girls in reindeer herding – The best thing is to be outside Elen Anna Triumf says that it was very nice on the plain today, Tuesday. They can almost see the sun and the sky has been completely pink since morning. In mid-January, you can now see the sun if you stand on the right mountain peak in Finnmark. – The best thing is to be outside, because you have to take in the sun’s rays, which may not last very long, says the reindeer herder. Have you seen the sun this year? Feel free to share photos of the sun’s return with us! – Sunday was used to drive in the face of the sun. Found the sun in Kautokeino at minus 30 degrees, writes Elin Johnsen from Alta, who drove to the neighboring municipality to see the sun on Sunday 15 January. Photo: Elin Johnsen
