Special forces are said to have infiltrated the area while snipers positioned themselves on top of nearby buildings, writes Al Jazeera. The forces are said to have taken control of the hospitals Thabet Thabet and al-Israa. According to Al Jazeera, the death toll has risen to 12 after Israel launched what they call a “military operation” in the West Bank on Wednesday. At least 22 are injured and 20 have been arrested, according to Israeli authorities. The Israeli army (IDF) says this is day two of an “anti-terrorist operation” in the West Bank. In a statement on Thursday, they say out of five Palestinians have been killed in a mosque, and claim that they were militants. Israel has previously said that the operation is aimed at key members of Hamas’ wing in the West Bank. UN Secretary-General Antònio Guterres has condemned the attack.
