“Yesterday, Friday May 23, 2025, our teams transferred [to the hospital] the bodies of nine martyrs, some of whom were charred, from the house of Doctor Hamdi al-Najjar and his wife, Doctor Alaa al-Najjar,” stated Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense of Gaza. He emphasized that “The Israeli occupation has targeted their house in the Gizan Al-Najjar district in Khan Younès.”

Alaa Najjar, a diligent pediatrician at Nasser Hospital, was on duty at the time of the bombardment. Reports indicate that she rushed home upon hearing the news only to find her house engulfed in flames. Ahmad al-Farra, chief of the pediatric service at the hospital, conveyed that her husband sustained severe injuries, and their only surviving child, an 11-year-old son, is currently in critical condition.

The innocent victims—aged from 7 months to 12 years—were tragically taken too soon. Khalil Al-Dokran, spokesperson for the Gaza Ministry of Health, informed the Associated Press that two of the children remained trapped under the rubble following the attack.

In response to the incident, the Israeli army released a statement claiming that they targeted individuals associated with a structure close to their troops. They referred to the Khan Younès area as a “dangerous war zone.” The statement also asserted that civilians had been evacuated prior to the strikes, adding that “The allegation concerning damage caused to unrescued civilians is being examined.”
