12 February 2024 at 01:36 Israeli attacks on Rafah in Gaza – several people are said to have been killed The Palestinian Red Crescent reports on Monday night about heavy Israeli airstrikes against the densely populated town of Rafah in the south of Gaza. That is written by Reuters. AFP reports heavy bombing on the outskirts of Rafah, and refers to its own journalists as witnesses. At least seven people are said to have been killed, Hamas-run health officials told AFP. There are around 1.5 million people in the city, on the border with Egypt. Over 1.2 million have fled there from Israeli attacks further north in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he will launch a ground invasion of Rafah. He says Israel will do this to wipe out Hamas. Norway, the EU and a number of aid organizations have warned of catastrophic consequences.
