Israeli forces are said to have also taken control of other government institutions, an engineering faculty and police headquarters in the city. The Israeli defense IDF intervened with air and ground forces in the Gaza Strip several weeks ago, after Hamas committed a terrorist attack in Israel on 7 October. Around 1,200 were killed in the terrorist attack. Over 11,000 have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war.
