Ingeborg Soot (32) lives for and from music. Through a long musical life, she has experienced a lot, but there is little that can compare to what happened during a concert in Frogner Church in Lier on Women’s Day. She was repeatedly “attacked” by a bat. It didn’t work, and it ended with Ingeborg, the rest of the ensemble and the audience having to postpone the concert for an hour – and perform it in another room, writes Drammens Tidende. The voice of Ingeborg Soot obviously attracts bats. Right at the start of the concert, she noticed something flapping at the other end of the church. – I stood there with my duet partner Katharina Frogner Kockum, and looked up at the organ gallery. It was the usual concert lighting, and we had spots on us. I thought that the flapping ring might be a bulb that was about to go off, she says. She ignored this, and shifted her focus to the audience. It should not be allowed to spoil the concert. There was no light bulb – and it ruined the concert. – I have been involved in a lot during my career, but I never thought that a concert would be attacked by a bat. Reacted to “bat” The work “Stabat Mater” has an intro of 11 measures, with flute and piano. – And then I was the first to start. I sang “sta bat”, but on my second note, on “bat”, it came flying at me. They started again. And the same thing happened again, in the same place, as batwoman Ingeborg Soot sang “bat” – “But guriland, get yourself together,” I thought and wanted to continue. They tried to hold the concert at the other end of the church, but then the bat flew even closer to Ingeborg. – Did someone try to catch the bat? – If it was! There was even a lady who tried to catch it in her scarf, but it wasn’t so easy, it was in such a hurry. Important ears After four attempts, they gave up. They had a meeting in the back room with cantor Bina Kumar Karpisova, and agreed to move the concert to Frogner parish house. – There was laughter and a good atmosphere in the church, and there was a sporty crowd that came along. There we ended up with a nice, bat-free concert. Bats are the only mammals that can fly, and there are 12 different species in Norway. They “see” with their hearing, they can get very old, and they hang with their heads down, writes Store Norske Leksikon. Although hearing is absolutely essential for them, scientists know little about what kind of music they like. The work “Stabat Mater” was clearly to his liking. Possibly not…
