Indicted for 107 cases of snooping in medical records – news Innlandet – Local news, TV and radio

The woman was employed as a health worker at Sykehuset Innlandet when she searched for information on a total of 107 patients in the patient records. According to police attorney Henning Klauseie, the woman must have admitted to having made the postings. She has explained that some of the searches were necessary for the job. Other searches believe she was part of education and training. – For a third group, she admits that she has been snooping on people she shouldn’t have been snooping on, says Klauseie. According to the police, among other things, she must have applied to family and acquaintances. SERIOUS BREACH: Police prosecutor Henning Klauseie says the indictment against the female health worker in her 20s includes, among other things, gross breach of duty. Klauseie says that those who are in contact with the healthcare system must have confidence that the information they provide will be treated confidentially. He believes that the snooping the woman is accused of is a breach of those conditions. – Many people probably feel that it is burdensome that an unauthorized person has been in and looked at quite intimate information about themselves, says Klauseie. Not guilty The woman pleads not guilty and is disappointed by the indictment. – She thinks it’s tough. DISAPPOINTED: Lawyer André Lillehovde van der Eynden, who is the woman’s defender, says his client is disappointed by the indictment. Photo: Frode Meskau / news That’s what the woman’s defender, André Lillehovde van der Eynden, says. He points out that archiving case documents was one of the woman’s duties. – So she has been involved with the documents. But she has had no awareness of snooping, to use that word, says van der Eynden. Risking prison The woman, who no longer works at Sykehuset Innlandet, now risks a prison sentence. She is charged with both serious breach of duty and breach of the Health Personnel Act. According to the police, the penalty is two years and three months, respectively. Klauseie expects that the case will be scheduled during the autumn. Will go for acquittal The woman is looking forward to having the case tried in court, confirms her defender. She is disappointed that the police have not taken her explanation into account. – Do you want to go for a full acquittal? – That is the natural claim when she does not plead guilty, says van der Eynden. Time-consuming In April last year, the woman was charged with 145 cases of snooping in medical records. This must have happened during 14 months in 2020 and 2021. These 145 patients were then asked to waive the obligation of confidentiality. – 107 people have done that. That is why today there is an indictment with 107 victims, says Klauseie. He confirms that it has been time-consuming to obtain and process information. Press officer at Innlandet Hospital, Line Fuglehaug, says they are happy that the case has been thoroughly investigated. They do not wish to comment further on the case until a verdict is reached.
