Felix Sanchez was hired in 2017 with the aim of leading Qatar to success in that year’s World Cup on home soil, but it turned out to be a major disappointment sportingly. Qatar lost their three matches and went out with a crash after the group stage. The opening match against Ecuador was lost 0-2, and then it was 1-3 and 0-2 against Senegal and the Netherlands respectively. 47-year-old Sanchez has previously been youth coach at Barcelona for ten years. He was in charge of Qatar’s U19 national team before being given responsibility for the A national team five years ago. It has not yet been announced who will take over Qatar’s national team after Sanchez.
