In a shocking turn of events, the first couple from  Season 9  of the popular show Mariés au premier regard has announced their separation. In the episode that aired on  June 2 , Jennifer revealed her heartbreaking decision to part ways with Keyn. “He imposed everything on me, and I didn’t understand it. This is not the ending I was expecting. It actually shocked me,” said the 33-year-old sports coach.

During their previous evaluation, there were already signs of trouble. A day before their session with the relationship experts, Keyn, a 31-year-old firefighter, mentioned wanting to end their relationship. Following a discussion with psychologists Estelle Dossin and Marie Tapernoux, he decided to give their marriage another chance.

However, Jennifer later revealed the startling truth: “In the taxi, he confessed to me that he agreed to stay married but that it wasn’t what he truly thought or felt.” According to her, Keyn seemed more invested in maintaining an image for the show than making genuine efforts in their relationship: “He preferred to say that in front of the cameras to protect me, but he hadn’t changed his mind. He still wanted a divorce.”

A Breakup with Two Narratives

Keyn disputes Jennifer’s version, claiming he didn’t want to leave her so soon after filming: “When I explained my feelings to her, it hurt her, and things escalated quickly, leading to the separation.” He shared that he had wanted to explore their connection further and was scheduled to go on vacation, hoping that physical distance would help them reassess their feelings.

On  May 30  on Instagram, Keyn even stated he chose to give their relationship another shot of his own volition, and he wasn’t pressured by the experts: “There was nothing during the debrief that made me change my mind. I came back to my decision because sometimes time provides clarity. I wasn’t forced into anything; I make my own choices,” he assured his followers.

Jennifer, on the other hand, felt betrayed. “During our debrief with the experts, he expressed wanting to get to know me better, yet afterward, nothing came of it. He wasn’t genuinely trying,” she said. The coach and mother of one felt that Keyn was giving up and lamented that he didn’t really fight for her.

Jennifer and Keyn Remain Civil

Fortunately for Jennifer, she’s received an outpouring of support from her family and from viewers of Mariés au premier regard, who were touched by her tears and the unexpected end of her marriage. Many took to social media to voice their disapproval of Keyn’s perceived dishonesty and labeled his actions as cowardly for not being sincere in front of the cameras.

Despite the volatile nature of their breakup, Jennifer and Keyn have maintained contact. “We often talk and sometimes call each other. It’s mostly supportive and cordial,” she shared with her friend Mathieu. Keyn has echoed these sentiments, stating that while they may not be friends yet, there’s potential for a friendship down the line: “We talk a lot. I wouldn’t say we’re friends since she doesn’t want to be my friend. Maybe that will change. Regardless, I’ll always be there for her.” However, this time, without the wedding ring.
