Two yellow danger warnings for a lot of snow have been sent out for the next few days. Forecast debt for the whole of Western Norway and in some places there may be a total of between 60-70 cm of snow until Saturday. One warning applies for today and the next for Friday morning to Saturday morning. Most of the snow will come at higher altitudes. – Soft snow combined with wind creates difficult driving conditions. There will be quite a bit of snow, and that could lead to some closed mountain passes, says meteorologist Alexander Skeltved at Vervarslinga in Western Norway. Opening Friday morning But for those who have thought about the mountain before the weekend, there is hope. From midnight on Thursday until Friday morning there is a short rest period. Then there will be less snow and better driving conditions. – If you are going over the mountain, Friday morning is probably best. But at the same time, there can be large local differences which mean that you can hit a good or bad period. Beyond Friday and until Saturday, the snow will return in full. There will also be some wind. – There will be quite a lot of snow, which creates poor visibility. Along with the wind, visibility will be even worse, says the meteorologist. Yesterday there was hurricane force around Stad, and we don’t want to come near it. But we will have strong gales today and tomorrow. The weather can change quickly The Norwegian Road Traffic Center also encourages people to drive over the mountain on Friday morning. But traffic operator Remi Lian says drivers must also keep up to date on traffic. – Things can change quickly in the mountains, and it is important to keep track of which transitions are open. Hardangervidda, Aurland-Hol and Hemsedal are the most exposed mountain passes. Especially Hardangervidda, the traffic operator says. On Thursday afternoon, only Filefjell is open from the mountain passes.
