– I am grateful – news Culture and entertainment

– It is an opportunity for me to embrace my age. That’s what Harrison Ford tells when news meets him in London. It has been exactly 42 years since the first Indiana Jones film premiered. “The Hunt for the Lost Treasure” was the start of one of the world’s biggest film series. Now the fifth and final film “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” is out. That’s probably how many people remember him. Photo: ©2023 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM. A story that survives generations Ever since he appeared on the big screen, Indiana Jones has captivated audiences of all ages. – These stories are timeless. They take families with them and show them to their children. That’s what Ford says, when asked why he thinks the films are still popular. – These stories will live on for several more generations. Because in the fight against Nazis, Soviets and evil forces, Indiana Jones has been a shining example of classic storytelling. A familiar scene from the first film. Photo: ©2023 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM The ingredients in the films have been heroes, villains and hidden treasures. It was these classic storytelling techniques that the filmmakers behind, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas used. Their films revolutionized the industry in the 70s and 80s, and they both have franchises that are still alive today. – I still have to pinch myself in the arm British actress and series creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, shares the spotlight with Ford. The goddaughter of Indiana Jones appears in the new film. Photo: ©2023 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM. She plays the character “Helene Shaw”, the goddaughter of Indiana Jones. – I have loved these films for as long as I can remember. I grew up with them. Waller-Bridge says that she loves the sense of adventure and excitement. Both in movies and in real life. – And no one has better adventures than Indiana Jones. When she was little, she looked up to the character and dreamed of being a part of it. – So I still pinch myself when I realize that I actually got to join one. Mads Mikkelsen, who has the role of the villain “Jürgen Voller,” confirms the same. Mads Mikkelsen plays the Nazi villain Jürgen Voller, who wants to correct Hitler’s mistakes. Photo: ©2023 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM He highlights the breaks from a specific scene that took a long time to film. – I had to pinch myself when I sat with Harrison Ford and heard wonderful stories for two days. On devoting a lifetime to the industry Harrison Ford has been at the center of Western popular culture for over four decades. He has played everything from the tall pilot “Han Solo” in the Star Wars films, to the detective “Rick Deckard” in Blade Runner from 1982. Many also know him as the American president “James Marshall” in the action film Air Force One from 1997. In the role of Han Solo. Here from the first Star Wars film together with Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. Blade Runner from 1982 was another science-fiction film for Ford. Perhaps one of the roughest presidents ever? At least James Marshall made an impression in the 90s. With the well-known hat, in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from 2008. Here with Shia LaBeouf. How has it been for you to be in the center? – I am grateful. Grateful for the opportunities, and grateful for the relationship between him and everyone who sees the films. – I feel that the work we do, which is storytelling, is a public service. Ford believes that we as humans need stories and storytellers. – To always remember the obligations we have between us. – Indy has a map, ours is a script Even though Steven Spielberg has directed the previous films, the director’s chair moved on. The task of ending the series went to James Mangold. He has previously distinguished himself with films such as “Logan” (2017) and “Ford v Ferrari” (2019). James Mangold has always had a great love for the movies. Photo: PMA Film and TV Although he was a massive fan of the older films, he didn’t immediately accept. – I wasn’t sure if I wanted to take this job. That is what Mangold tells news. – I wanted to read the script first, and see if this was something I could convey. He calls the script his “map”, with a reference to the film series’ many maps. – But of course I was honoured, he adds. That Steven Spielberg also wanted him as a director was important. – Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg are heroes in my eyes. Mangold was 17 when the first film came out, and dreamed of making similar films. He could never have imagined that he would end the series. Time, age and new Without revealing too much, one can say that “Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny” is about time. – It’s about time, or in my case age, says Harrison Ford. He wanted to tell one last story about a character that has defined his life. A story about an adventurer who is no longer as young, as fit, or as adventurous as before. But as in all closing films, the instinct is awakened one last time. – It is time for me to end this. And in this case, maybe try something new.
