After the ceremony in the temple, Abe is transported through the streets of Tokyo, including past the National Assembly where he was first elected in 1993. Abe was shot while giving a speech during a political event at the morning local time Friday, June 8 in the Nara region west of Japan. He died of his injuries shortly afterwards. The man arrested for shooting and killing Abe has admitted to shooting the former prime minister. The shooter has been identified as 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami. Police in Nara, Japan, say they found several weapons and explosives when they searched his home. They also say that the weapon he used was homemade.
