Therefore, if you want to eradicate subscriptions you no longer need, the first step is to find those that you don’t know you are paying for. You will be able to do this with any artificial intelligence chatbot. In the example we have used ChatGPT, but you can also use Claude or Gemini.
Before starting, it is important that you know that by doing this, you will be handing over your data to companies that own artificial intelligence. While nothing has to happen, it’s wise to be cautious before sharing sensitive information like your bank accounts.
Download a PDF of Your Banking Transactions
The first step is to download a file that contains your bank transactions. For that, navigate to your bank’s website or application and click on the option to download movements of your account.
When downloading movements, it is very important that you download several months’ worth of data. Why? Because this way, the AI can locate your subscriptions based on repeated movements, and it will help it identify which ones you have stopped paying. Additionally, make sure to download the file in a PDF format, as it’s easy to read.
This context is crucial. What we want is not just a list of all the subscriptions you have paid in recent months, but for the AI to detect which ones have stopped being paid because they appeared previously and now do not and which ones you are still paying for.
Now Ask the AI Correctly
Now you need to go to your chosen AI chat, upload the PDF that you downloaded from your banking application. Open a chat and click on the “Add files” option to choose your PDF. Don’t just send it; after uploading, you will need to include a specific prompt.
This is where the magic happens in the request prompt. You should ask AI to find subscriptions you haven’t stopped paying for yet. Be specific about what you want it to review. Here’s an example you can use:
I’m going to upload a PDF with a bank statement that shows accounts for the last few months. I want you to analyze the content and tell me what recurring subscriptions I am still paying for without realizing it. Please show only those that I have not stopped paying in the last month.
Once you send this, the AI will analyze your bank statement. It will look for all subscriptions, identify recurring payments, and check which of those payments were present before and have now ceased. The results will show only those subscriptions you are still currently paying for, along with the corresponding amounts.
