18 July 2023 at 10:57 Swedish Mikael Ymer banned for 18 months for breach of duty to report It is Ymer himself who reports the news on Twitter on Tuesday morning. There he writes that in January 2022 he was prosecuted by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for breaching the obligation to report by having missed three out-of-competition doping tests in twelve months. The three tests all date from 2021, 22 April, 10 August and 7 November. The athletes are obliged to state a period of one hour each day during which they must be available for a doping test, with the time and place. Ymer was acquitted by an independent jury in June 2022, but the case was further appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which in a press release confirms Ymer’s ban. – Yesterday I received the message that CAS has banned me from professional tennis for 18 months, even though I have never used or been accused of using illegal means, he writes. Ymer writes that he believes the decision is unfair, as he was acquitted first and because he believes the third breach of the obligation to report was not a breach. CAS writes that in connection with the test on 7 November, Ymer stayed at a different hotel than the one he had requested when he made the reservation. Ymer’s agent was the one who updated the information about the Swede’s whereabouts, but had not received information about the change of hotel and had therefore not updated Ymer’s information. – On top of that, I find it difficult to understand that they have come to the conclusion that 18 months’ ban is a fair punishment, writes Ymer. Exclusion for breach of the notification obligation has a framework of one to two years. In a press release from CAS, they write that the ITF asked for a ban of two years. The 24-year-old is the best Swedish tennis player and ranked number 51 in the world. He previously participated in July at Wimbledon, where he reached the third round.
