“Hogwarts Legacy” – Reviews and recommendations

“Hogwarts Legacy” is a brand new story that takes place over 100 years before Harry, Hermione and Ronny arrive at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The opportunity to become a student at Hogwarts beckons, with all the intrigue, magical events and exciting twists that made the original books so popular. There is also a huge role-playing world where both Hogwarts and the surrounding areas are at your feet. It’s a really beautiful world, even, one that richly rewards exploration and experimentation. IRRESISTIBLE: It’s easy to understand that the combination of Hogwarts and an open world RPG is alluring. This is a gaming experience many have dreamed of and longed for. Family-friendly The game experience appears as a family-friendly version of games such as “Elden Ring”, “The Witcher 3”, “God of War: Ragnarök”, “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla” and “Horizon: Forbidden West”. You have skill points that you can use to develop your character, a huge wardrobe of clothes and equipment that gradually makes your character more powerful, exploration of caves, big boss fights, treasure hunting, task solving and everything else associated with the genre. CONTENT: I greatly appreciate both the experiences I have and the regular, constant introduction of something new to do. Photo: Warner Bros. Games It’s pretty confusing at first, with a bunch of mechanics and features to get used to. new spells, the ability to tame wild animals and much more. DROP INTO THE ADVENTURE: All the questions I had were answered by not thinking too much, and instead just playing more. Photo: Warner Bros. Games Recognizable Here the game borrows a lot from the books. The combination of being in the fifth step at Hogwarts and the big, behind-the-scenes mystery you have to solve is an echo of the experiences Harry Potter will stumble into just over a hundred years later. The game lags a little in all the everyday things you have to do, and the interaction with the other students is paper thin, and it may be unavoidable that some of what you do becomes repetitive when the game is as long as it is. LITTLE BORING: The game takes tens of hours to complete, and unfortunately there is a lot of dead time in the classroom. Photo: Warner Bros. Games It gets much better when the backdrop – an engaging story of ancient magic, an evil conspiracy and your role in it all – is placed at the center. Then the “Hogwarts Legacy” shines through with some magnificent, well-directed and magical events that are a pure joy to experience. Here, the game is not behind anything that has come before in this series. Griffin or Smygard? It is great that you can choose which of the four school houses you want to be a part of. The houses have some exclusive side quests and experiences, which can make it relevant to play through the story several times if you wish. VALGHATTEN: Many have probably wanted to sit right here and end up in one of Hogwarts’ four houses. It is also interesting that you get the opportunity to use unforgivable curses towards the end of the game, and that you often get dialogue choices that are not particularly sympathetic. So you can choose to roleplay as a kind of Voldemort Jr. if you wish. DOES THE DARK ALLURE? In “Hogwarts Legacy” there is an opening to choose the dark paths as well. Photo: Warner Bros. Games And here I must make a necessary aside: Harry Potter author JK Rowling has been an active trans critic in recent years, which has led to a strained relationship with the universe she has created for many, including myself. But it also applies to the developer of the game. It is of course no coincidence that “Hogwarts Legacy” is one of the most trans-inclusive games of all time. Virtual pride party You can pick and choose both feminine and masculine expressions when you create your own character, preferably a mixture of both. An important supporting role in the game is a trans woman, and your character is referred to with the gender-neutral pronoun “they/them”. On top of this, the game universe is populated by characters from all corners of the world. You also have characters who are more openly gay than Dumbledore, so to speak. “Hogwarts Legacy” truly appears as a celebration of the many facets of humanity. A virtual pride party where absolutely everyone is on the guest list. TIE OR BOW: You can choose from a rich wardrobe to find the expression with which you want to identify yourself most. It may be a calculated move by the developer, but I think it makes it easier to be a Harry Potter fan even if you strongly disagree with the author behind it. Strong competition It must still be mentioned that even though “Hogwarts Legacy” has many obvious qualities, especially for Potter fans, it is a long way up to the best games in this genre. And then I’ve been in more exciting virtual worlds before, which becomes extra clear when the enthusiasm for how beautiful everything is is dampened somewhat in the game’s second half. ACTION TO DEFEAT: In the strongest competitors in the adventure game genre, you control possibly even fiercer powers than in “Hogwarts Legacy”. The Hogwarts Dice Roll alone speaks for itself, quite simply. It reflects where “Hogwarts Legacy” stands compared to other games in the genre. But it is, after all, an important point that the other games do not take place at Hogwarts. Many Harry Potter fans will probably experience “Hogwarts Legacy” as the fulfillment of a long-standing dream. In that sense, it is nice to be able to state that “Hogwarts Legacy” is clearly the best Harry Potter game ever. Although the competition there is not exactly fierce. PS: The game has been tested on PS5. It also launches on PS4 and Xbox One on April 4, and on Switch on July 25. news reviews Photo: Warner Bros.
