12 August 2022 at 23:46 Historic climate package adopted in Congress The House of Representatives in the US Congress has adopted a historic billion dollar package of climate, health and tax policy measures. The package has already been approved by the Senate. The entire package is worth around 740 billion dollars, which corresponds to approximately NOK 7,000 billion. Around half of the money will go to climate measures, which, according to the Democrats, will contribute to cutting the US’s climate emissions by 40 per cent by 2030, writes NTB. The package was adopted by 220 to 207 votes. The vote followed party lines. That was also the case in the Senate last Sunday. There, the package was approved with the narrowest possible margin. 50 Democrats voted in favor and 50 Republicans voted against, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting her vote as the chamber’s president.
