It should be part of our profile, we hope that this will have clear ripple effects in our region. An old dream The dream of university status is an old one, and has been extra high on the priority list since the merger of the university colleges in Innlandet in 2017. – It has been a very motivating goal for us in relation to our own development, says the rector. Colleges that wish to become a university must apply to NOKUT, which appoints a so-called expert committee. These make a professional assessment of whether the college meets all the requirements set by the Ministry of Education and Culture and NOKUT. The college first applied for university status in 2018, but that time it ended with a refusal. Since then, they have worked hard to make the dream come true. Now NOKUT has landed on the opposite result. – I would like to congratulate all students and staff at Høgskolen i Innlandet on this historic day. Through this process, they have shown that the college has the quality needed to become a university, says Nokut director Kristin Vinje in a press release. Rector Peer Jacob Svenkerud is very happy with the feedback – We have worked to strengthen our research competence, and have focused on the number of employees with high competence, he says. – Strict criteria Høgskolen i Innlandet is assessed according to the current rules for becoming a university, which are stricter than the rules expected to apply from next year. – There are strict criteria, so we are now very satisfied with getting through a demanding needle’s eye. – There is great recognition for all those who have worked on this in the organization over many years.
