The storm has already ravaged the Mexican state of Baja California, where roads were turned into rivers of water. One death has been reported there, reports Reuters. On Sunday local time, the storm reached the US state of California. Meteorologists have warned in advance that the storm could cause catastrophic floods. It is the first time in history that the authorities issued a tropical storm warning in southern California. California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency. The Los Angeles School District will be closed on Monday. In the desert city of Palm Springs, 160 km east of Los Angeles, they usually receive 120 millimeters of rainfall during a year. It is expected that “Hilary” alone will cause the city to receive between 150 and 250 millimeters of rainfall.
