Here the wolf runs after the calf in Gausdal – news Innlandet – Local news, TV and radio

– A felling has just started, says Stina Aaseth in the Landbrukkontoret Lillehammer region. The State Administrator in Innlandet has on Saturday granted a depredation permit for a wolf in parts of Gausdal, with several municipalities. The depredation permit was granted because the wolf was caught on game camera chasing a calf last night. Last night, the wolf was observed on a wildlife camera in this area here. Aaseth says she does not know where the felling starts and she does not know if any grazing animals have been taken as a result of the wolf yet. Special image of hunting cattle – It is a special image. There aren’t many similar photos from Norway really, where you can see it so well, says Ole Knut Steinset at the National Nature Conservancy about the hunt for the wolf. He says it is not unusual in wolf packs – that packs or pairs chase cattle, but it is not often that you see injuries. Steinset says it is special to see a “stray wolf” chasing cattle. – There are few incidents that we are aware of. It is probably a wolf that was born last year, he says. Fewer injured grazing animals this year It is usually sheep that are taken by wolves. As of 1 August, 1,521 injured or dead sheep were reported where it is suspected that wild game was behind it. There are somewhat fewer than at the same time last year, NTB reported this week. – The number of injuries from wild game will naturally vary somewhat from year to year. It is gratifying that the trend of limited losses continues, although this year there are also sheep owners who have experienced significant damage, said director Ellen Hambro of the Norwegian Environment Agency. Through its investigations, the Norwegian Nature Inspectorate (SNO) has confirmed that 573 sheep have been injured and killed by wild game. There is a certain decrease in wolf injuries, which is the main reason for the decrease. The number of injuries from bears and lynxes has increased. Published 24/08/2024, at 12.29
