Ada Hegerberg has played little in the start of the season, but is still part of the Norwegian women’s national team’s squad for the upcoming double match against Albania in the European Championship play-off. It will be the same for Maren Mjelde. The veteran struggled with playing time and injuries at Chelsea, but has played a lot for Arna-Bjørnar after returning home this summer. It is clear after national team manager Gemma Grainger announced the squad for the upcoming matches of destiny on Monday. – Our expectations are clear, it is to win. We want to win and do it with good performances. It feels like a long time since July and the match against the Netherlands, but the level and performance in that match is what we want. Albania is a lower-ranked team, but in football there are many surprises and we will prepare in the same way as other matches, says national team manager Gemma Grainger. – It has been difficult to take out squads. It’s tough competition, everyone is available and that’s good, says Grainger. The Lyon striker has played very little for the club team recently and only came on for a quarter of an hour as a substitute against Montpellier on Saturday. It was her very first minutes in the league this season. Nevertheless, there will be national team games in the future. It is not known what caused Hegerberg’s absence at the start of the season. In September, national team manager Gemma Grainger wrote the following in a message to NTB: – Ada and I have spoken, and she is very satisfied with the start of the season. She is looking forward to the season with Lyon and the Norwegian national team. As for the updated status of her physical health, the club team will provide those details. Hegerberg was not part of the Norwegian squad that faced Finland and the Netherlands in the last two regular European Championship qualifiers in July. Spisstjernen has only started one of Norway’s eight international matches under the leadership of Grainger. The upcoming matches against Albania will be played on 25 and 29 October, with a decisive match at the Ullevaal Stadium at the end. Norway must win a total of two games to advance to the final playoff round. The winner of the match between Croatia and Northern Ireland awaits there. Those matches will be played on 27 November and 3 December.
