5 August 2022 at 00:52 Jæger close to a sensational WC medal Henriette Jæger (19) finished in 4th place in the 400 meters in the U20 WC in Colombia. She improved her Norwegian age record from the semi-final from 52.33 seconds to 52.33 seconds in the final. – I can’t be anything but satisfied, but it was 4th place, then, says Jæger to news and lets it hang for a while. On the run, she looked to the right from her lane one with just under 50 meters to go. The lactic acid had attacked. – I had nothing to give in the last 50 metres, admits Jæger, who twice during the championship lowered the Norwegian age record in the 400 metres. Great Britain’s Yemi Mari John took the gold in 51.50. Demaris Mutunga (Kenya) took the silver in 51.71, while the bronze was awarded to India’s Rupal after clocking 51.85. The Norwegian great talent struggled with injury problems throughout the winter, and was unsure whether she would go to the WC in Cali one month ago. Hunter thrives best as a multi-tasker. But because of the ailments, she has not competed in a single heptathlon in 2022. And despite the promising results in the 400 metres, she still plans to focus on more exercises: – I have noticed more and more how much of a multi-combatant I am than 400 meter runner, but on the other hand, it is a completely different pattern to run a 400 meter race than to run an all-around event. I have learned a lot from how to sharpen the form and seriousness around a championship, says Jæger. Now she hopes it will be possible to complete a heptathlon before the end of the season. But before that time, she goes to Munich to take part in the EC. The strong running in Colombia has earned her a place in the squad for the 4×400 meter relay team in Munich. PS! Amalie Iuel’s Norwegian record for 400 meters is 51.64.
