Henningsvær, town in Lofoten, on the small, relatively flat islands of Heimøy and Hellandsøy, just southwest of Austvågøy in Vågan municipality, Nordland. In 1934, the islands were connected by a breakwater, and Henningsvær subsequently became a good port for the fishing fleet and was for a long time a dominant fishing village and fishing reception in Lofoten. Fishing outside Henningsvær has varied considerably over time; at its peak, the site had about 60 fish receptions; today only a couple or three are left. Henningsvær got a road connection to Austvågøya via a couple of smaller islands in 1983, and tourist traffic has steadily increased since then. Today, tourism is an important business income for Henningsvær, and the settlement has several hotels, rorbu facilities, restaurants and galleries. The Codstock festival is organized annually, which is a big happening. Henningsvær is also one of Lofoten’s most important starting points for outdoor activities such as climbing in the area around Vågakallen north of the town. The distance to the municipal center Svolvær is 26 kilometers, and to the nearest airport, Svolvær Airport, Helle, 31 kilometers. At the first Norwegian census in 1769, Henningsvær had a permanent settlement of just four people. Source: https://www.visithenningsvar.no/
