2 January 2024 at 11:46 Confirmed: Rooney fired from coaching job in Birmingham Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney is done as manager of the English football club Birmingham City. Birmingham confirms this in a press release where they also thank Rooney for his efforts. “Despite the fact that they have done their best, the results have not lived up to expectations. The board believes that a change in coaching position is in the best interests of the football club,” writes Birmingham in the press release. There have been only two victories for Birmingham under Rooney’s leadership. It was obviously too meager a meal for the club management. – Football is a result-driven industry, and I am aware that they have not been at the level I have wanted. But time is the most precious thing for a manager and I believe that 13 weeks is not enough to put in place the changes I thought were necessary, writes Rooney himself on X after the sacking. Rooney has only managed the Championship Series club for 15 games. He was hired as recently as last October. He also writes that he will now take a break from football to recover from this. – I have been involved in professional football, as a player or manager, since I was 16. Now I will spend time with my family while I prepare for the next opportunity on my journey as a manager, he writes. On Monday, Birmingham lost 0-3 to Leeds away from home. Norwegian Kristoffer Klaesson kept the goal for Leeds and kept a clean sheet for the home team. Birmingham have only four clubs behind them in the championship series table after 26 league rounds.
