Hellesylt in Stranda will lure tourists with Tom Cruise sausage and crashed motorbike – news Møre og Romsdal – Local news, TV and radio

– It should be a juicy, meaty sausage. And then there must be special herbs and spices that exist naturally in the area here, says Ole Ringdal. What local herbs are available on Hellesylt then? – I’m a little unsure, but we’ll find out. The sausage daily manager of the local meat producer talks about is one of the new attractions at Hellesylt in Stranda municipality in Sunnmøre. Namely the TC sausage. He didn’t dare call that Tom Cruise sausage at the risk of getting into trouble. – I think I’ll have a problem then, but TC thinks I’m inside, so we’ll go for it, says Ringdal. Ole Ringdal serves sausage dressed in a Tom Cruise outfit. This is indeed a different sausage, as they haven’t found the local herbs to go into the TC sausage yet. Photo: Private Sausages and crashed motorbike The new Mission Impossible film “Dead Reckoning Part One” was recently premiered. Parts of the film were recorded in Rauma and in Stranda in Møre and Romsdal. It was on Hellesylt that Tom Cruise performed the stunt where he jumped with a motorbike off the mountain Helsetkopen. Although in the film it is added to Austria. Now the village will reap the attention. In addition to the sausages, mayor Jan Ove Tryggestad (Sp) has taken care of a prop from the film. – We received a clear message from the film company that we were not allowed to use any of the material they had used. Everything was to be destroyed. But the mayor wanted to save on the motorcycles from the big stunt. He therefore made an agreement with the recycling facility to store the bicycles, instead of destroying them immediately. – We let time work for us, and it has. We are now allowed to use the bicycles, says Tryggestad. The mayor and the committed meat producer will exhibit the motorcycle in a glass display case in the center of Hellesylt, on Tom Cruise place. – Now it will be difficult to get cruise ships here after 2026 because of the emissions requirement, so there will be empty cruise space anyway, and I think that fits very well. One of the motorcycles Tom Cruise used in the stunt where he jumped off the Helsetkopen on Hellesylt. Mayor Jan Ove Tryggestad took care of the bike and has now been allowed to use it in an exhibition. The bike gained speed during the filming. Does not make use of film recordings But Norwegian villages have received criticism for not making good enough use of the attention from large film recordings. Odd Roar Lange, known as “The Travel Inspector”, is a travel expert. He believes Hellesylt is far too late with cruise tourism. – Now I don’t like being a joy killer, so we get to cheer on all good ideas. But unfortunately one must not overestimate the value of the fact that Tom Cruise has been there and recorded some scenes that have been moved to Austria. Tourism expert Odd Roar Lange, The Travel Inspector, in Geiranger in Stranda municipality. Photo: Privat Lange said that the production company behind the Mission Impossible film made behind-the-scenes footage even before Christmas, where they showed how they had worked and where they had been. He believes Stranda municipality should have benefited from the effect of this in the past six months. – You have to start early, and you have to blanket bomb the market with information. You really have to make sure that those who work with it are sick of talking about Tom Cruise. Then it starts to work elsewhere. Hoping for another visit Neither Tryggestad nor Ringdal disagree that they could have made better use of the filming. The mayor believes part of the reason is that the recording took place during the corona pandemic. But now they are betting big, and have invited the guest of honor himself to the opening of the motorcycle exhibition. – We have had good contact with the film company. If it fits with Tom Cruise’s travel plans, no one should be surprised that he is in Hellesylt when we unveil the motorcycle, says Mayor Tryggestad.
