11 February 2024 at 18:59 Heidi Weng secured another podium place in Canmore Sweden’s Frida Karlsson won ahead of Finland’s Kerttu Niskanen in the women’s 20 kilometer classic during the World Cup in Canmore. Heidi Weng was third for the second time this weekend. Astrid Øyre Slind secured fourth place. – Incredibly good by both Heidi and Astrid here, said Viaplay’s cross-country expert, Niklas Dyrhaug. A total of 29 runners were gathered in one field when they passed 6.6 kilometers. And Astrid Øyre Slind was among those who set the pace high. – It’s one of the better things I’ve seen from Astrid (Øyre Slind) diagonally, said cross-country expert in Viaplay, Niklas Dyrhaug. But in the end it was all about these five: Astrid Øyre Slind, Frida Karlsson, Heidi Weng, Rosie Brennan, Ebba Andersson and Kerttu Niskanen. Karlsson and Niskanen, however, moved away in the last uphill towards the finish, with the Norwegian duo chasing behind. – That may have been the decisive move here. Lotta Udnes Weng and Anne Kjersti Kalvå held the tail of the main field early on and were unable to climb to the top. Heidi Weng impressed with third place in the 15 kilometers on Friday. On Saturday, Kristine Stavå’s Skistad secured a Norwegian victory in the sprint together.
