Severe Rainfall Hits the Drôme: A Saturday to Remember

On Saturday, June 7th, the  Drôme  department experienced intense, localized rainfall that caught many residents off guard. As reports from  Météo France  indicated, the area was placed under a yellow alert for thunderstorms. The skies darkened dramatically, resulting in torrential downpours that began around 3 PM. The city of  Romans-sur-Isère  witnessed a sudden deluge of rain in the midst of its annual celebrations for the region’s traditional delicacies:  pognes  and  ravioles .

By approximately 3:30 PM, firefighting services had to spring into action. Teams were dispatched with water pumps to the  Leclerc store  in  Saint-Paul-Lès-Romans , where around 4,000 square meters of the building became inundated with about five centimeters of water. These flooding conditions necessitated the evacuation of  400 individuals , although the store managed to reopen shortly afterward. Nearby, a shoe store named  Gémo  also faced the consequences of the heavy rains.

Another area affected was  Erôme , where a minor mudslide occurred on the  Nationale 7  road. Officials from the departmental road management services responded quickly to clear the debris and restore safe passage for motorists.
