Heat record on Andøya in Vesterålen and in Troms and Finnmark – news Nordland

Just one month ago, a snow warning was issued in Nordland, and winter had arrived in Northern Norway in full force. But lately things have crept from blue to red in Nordland, and last night something happened that has never happened before. Never before has a higher temperature been measured in November on Andøya. And by a good margin. Meteorologist on duty Matilda Hallerstig confirms this to news. Breaking the record with five degrees On the night of Friday, 14 degrees were measured at the measuring station at Andøya airport. The previous temperature measured there in November was 12.5 degrees. – It is not just that it is the highest measured, it is one and a half degrees more. Usually when we get a new highest measurement, it is perhaps 0.1-0.2 degrees more. So it’s quite a lot warmer, says Hallerstig. But it is nothing compared to the temperatures recorded in Troms and Finnmark. – In Banak it is 16 degrees, which broke the record from 1975 which was 12.2. In Karasjok, 11.3 was measured, while the previous one was 6.6 in 2005. At Hekkingen Lighthouse near Senja, 16.5 degrees was measured, where the previous record was 13.9 in 2003. Startling But what is the reason for this? – We have a low pressure which is about to move from Iceland towards Svalbard, and we are located to the south-east of that low pressure, and there are strong air masses from the south-west. South-westerly winds bring warm air from the south, giving us high temperatures. – Will it last? – It will be a little colder, but it will not be cold. It is still reported to be mild, but the temperature is dropping. On mountain passes in the region, the precipitation can change to sleet and snow. The meteorologist is careful not to blame climate change, as research into climate change deals with other things than momentary reports. – When we study climate change, we see how it develops over time, but it can look like that, anyway. Whether this will become common in the future I dare not answer, but that we will see more mild weather, I can say that we will. The Meteorological Institute has also issued a yellow flood warning in Troms and northern parts of Nordland. The warning applies from Friday night to Saturday afternoon. Yellow danger warning means moderate danger. Published 08.11.2024, at 11.03 Updated 08.11.2024, at 11.09
