Filmmaker Gareth Evans impressed me greatly with the innovative and spectacular action thrillers “The Raid” (2011) and “The Raid 2” (2014). So I was looking forward to his new Netflix movie “Havoc”. A gloomy big thriller with Hardhausen Tom Hardy in the lead role. The expectations are partially fulfilled. Here it is plentiful to put your teeth in for enthusiastic action fans. It is thundered with elevenville car chases, martial arts -fiff shooting exchanges, enjoyable cartoon violence and a mercy goal that lasts for ten minutes. Slow films and surprising camera angles reinforce the brutal details, and Evans slams film violence with a drive and a visual style that few filmmakers match. SMALL: Tom Hardy uses both the jaw, fists and firearms in the fight against corrupt police officers and brutal gangsters in “Havoc”. Settlement in the metropolis of a stolen truck full of cocaine and a murder of a powerful gangster leader sends us out in an ultra -violent spiral of betrayal, revenge and bullet rain. Much violence: Michelle Waterson plays one of many gangsters with life -threatening skills in “Havoc”. Photo: © 2025 Netflix, Inc. Patrick Walker (Tom Hardy) is a dirty policeman who regrets old sins. He embarks on a high -risk mission among corrupt police officers, merciless murderers and a girlfriend couple on the run. The script is a simple playpen for constant confrontations, but it also ends up between two chairs. It is too complex and complicated to act as a straight blood -red action thread for a clean -cut action movie. At the same time, the script is not sharp or original enough to swing as a personal -driven big city thriller. The result is an uneven film with several fast -paced highlights and several tame middle part. Fortunately, Tom Hardy delivers the goods, good actors make sure to lift some of the film’s weakest script pages. Corruption: Patrick Walker (Tom Hardy) and fresh partner Ellie (Jessie Mei Li) must be dealt with with both corrupt police and life -threatening robbers. Photo: © 2025 Netflix, Inc Tom Hardy has perfected the art of playing weird and messy underdogs who gladly seek out a little more than those he talks to. He gives charisma and coolness to even the most worn -out cliche scenes. Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzmán and Timothy Olymphant are other actors who make a lot of simple supporting roles. This is the career highlights, but the Hollywood veterans catch the action. I also like that “Havoc” joins the series of Christmas action films. ON THE RIMM: Charlie (Justin Cornwell) is blamed for a murder he has not committed and must flush. Photo: © 2025 Netflix, Inc. The tone is not as entertaining as in the genre highlight as “Die Hard”, “Deadly Weapon” and “The Long Kiss Goodnight”, but the Christmas setting gives the film a warm contrast wall for violence and sadness. Then you can object that it is not optimal timing to drop “Havoc” in April, but I will probably be drawn it again for a reunion in December.
