On Thursday, Karsten Warholm opened the season by running 400 meters flat in his own event, the Karsten Warholm Invitational, and the time 45.31 meant a new track record in the hall in Ulsteinvik. Warholm was so pleased with the race that he is now considering changing his plans for the season. – I get all the answers I want. I feel fast and strong, and I have to admit that it added flavor. I don’t feel quite finished, says Warholm to news. – Does that mean you will run more indoors? – I feel like it, then. After this, it is no less tempting, in any case. We had plans to do it, but we had to see how it went. I consider this start to be so good that I want to try a little more, says Warholm. I get to watch a bit of the NM. The EC is actually the big goal if we get there, says Warholm. He emphasizes that the WC outdoors is of course the big goal, but he wants more. – Because indoors, I have set my sights on the EC in Istanbul and fight for gold, of course. That is the goal, he says. Warholm believes that the new course record indicates that he can join the fight for precious metal. – Now it looks like I’m already at that level and can help fight for it, so we have to lift a few more tricks, he says. See the race to Warholm here. Critical Coach Leif Olav Alnes was not as high up as his student, when he was presented with Warholm’s wish. – We have to talk about it. It is of course tempting, but then there are the things about the fact that there are shared lanes for only one round. There is a bit of risk both with dosed turns and being stepped on, so you have to think about it, but I didn’t rule out that there won’t be more races, says Alnes to news. SKEPTICAL: Coach Leif Olav Alnes believes that more indoor races can be a risk. Photo: Svein Ove Ekornesvåg / NTB Alnes reveals that the discussion about several internal votes was up for discussion until the vote in Ulsteinvik, but that they now have to sit down and have the annual discussion afterwards. – You think he wants to? – That is absolutely correct. I understand that he wants to run, but we have to weigh it against the biggest goals, which despite everything are outdoors, says Alnes. Looking for a comeback Sprinter Elaine Thompson-Herah and high jumper Jaroslava Mahutsjykh were some of the world stars in Ulsteinvik on Thursday, but the greatest joy was shown by Henriette Jæger after she set a new personal record in the 400 meters, in addition to erasing the course record that Amalie Iuel took back in 2018. JUBILEE: Henriette Jæger was delighted after her race. Photo: Svein Ove Ekornesvåg / NTB – I have missed competing without being in pain, and not having those worries in training. Coming back and feeling that the body is working and that the time is good is very nice, says Jæger to news. The injury period with two consecutive fouls has been difficult. – It has been troublesome. Trusting your body and getting back to where you have been before has not been a problem mentally, but it has been difficult to get up to that amount of training and push yourself to the limit. I was very unsure about this race, whether it would last, so it was very nice to see that there was something good going on, she says. Warholm has nothing else to say about the event other than this: – It’s a roll of six in total. See Jæger in action here.
