In addition to being president of Guyana, Ali also heads the Caribbean Cooperation Organization Caricom. Henry was not in Jamaica’s capital Kingston where the meeting took place, but US officials told Reuters he held virtual talks with Caricom on Monday. Henry has been under intense pressure from the powerful criminal gangs in the country, who are demanding that he step down. He has ruled the country since President Jovenel Möise was killed in 2021, and Haiti has not held elections since 2016. In Kingston, a transition towards a new election in the country was among the topics. (NTB)
