Gyda Westvold Hansen coped with the pressure – leader before the cross-country skiing – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

– Right now I have to admit that I am very relieved, says Hansen to news. She has been referred to as Norway’s biggest WC favorite up front and Gyda Westvold Hansen got herself a very good starting point before the cross-country skiing on Friday afternoon. Due to steadily improving conditions, the jury slowed down before Hansen was due to jump, but the conditions were then too good for her to get the green light. Then the wind turned, but Hansen coped with the pressure and in demanding conditions she jumped 91 meters and leads by 20 seconds before the cross-country race. – These are extremely difficult conditions, as I see it. They have slowed down and with the back pull over the ball you really have to deliver good jumping and be patient. She pushes down on the edge like no one else in this field, says news’s expert commentator Johan Remen Evensen. – She has to sit for a while, but she copes with it in a very good way, I think, says news’s jumping expert Anders Bardal. Hansen himself analyzes it like this: – I saw at the top there that it is now starting to get heavy over the ball there. I’ve jumped here in tailwind versus buoyancy before, and I know how big a difference it makes and how much it means. I think I do the job well on the edge actually, and then it’s just right. – Will it be gold now, Gyda? – Yes. Sports director Ivar Stuan also reveals that there were some equipment problems for Hansen. – It gets very strange at the end, where the situation turns and something happens with Gyda’s clip as well. She wondered “what the hell happened there”, and then Tom Hilde (jumping coach for the combined runners) said that it didn’t work out completely. That was also why the ski didn’t come all the way, says Stuan. Hagen in the medal match Ida Marie Hagen, who has been the fastest cross-country runner of the combined women this season, was also very happy after jumping 92 metres. With that, she is the second best of the Norwegians after the jumping part, in eleventh place, one minute and eight seconds behind Hansen. – She has really laid the foundations for a medal here, says Evensen. In the press zone after the show jumping, sports manager Ivar Stuan also announced that Hagen had been selected for the mixed team competition later in the championship, where the team consists of two women and two men. Things did not go as well for Mari Leinan Lund, who fell after a jump of 90 metres. Thus, she is probably out of the medal race before the cross-country skiing. – A bit crazy, says Leinan Lund about the fall. Reigning champion Hansen has been the big one in the women’s combined. Since the World Cup was first started in the 2020/21 season, she has won 16 out of 18 World Cup races that have been held. The 20-year-old also became world champion two years ago, when the combined women had an exercise on the WC program for the first time. Back then it was triple Norwegian, with Mari Leinan Lund and Marte Leinan Lund in the places behind. The combined competition ends with 5 kilometer cross-country skiing, which starts at 14.15.
