After a tough first set in the final against Jabeur, Rybakina fought back masterfully in the last two sets and won the match with the numbers 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Jabeur, who on Saturday was the first African in a Grand Slam final since 1959, broke three of Rybakina’s serve games in the first set and eventually went ashore 6-3. However, Rybakina responded brilliantly in the second set and secured a third set with the numbers 6-2. The Kazakh also opened the third and decisive set in a convincing way. The Russian-born 23-year-old kept away from favorite Jabeur, and was finally able to stretch his arms and celebrate his first Grand Slam title. Both Rybakina and Jabeur played their first Grand Slam final on Saturday. The former had a quarter-final from last year’s Wimbledon edition as the longest she had come in the most generous tournaments. Jabeur, on the other hand, had two quarter-finals from Wimbledon (2021) and the Australian Open (2020) respectively as their best results from Grand Slam tournaments. (NTB)
