Getting aid in Cairo For the first time since 7 October, Norwegian citizens will probably be allowed to leave Gaza via the Rafah border crossing. Not everyone on this list has Norwegian citizenship, but has a connection to Norway. 27 of the Norwegian citizens who are on the evacuation list on Wednesday are children, Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide (Ap) told news on Tuesday. – Traveling into Gaza can be very dangerous, and everyone must assess from their own situation whether they want to go to Rafah now, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs writes on its website. Many had turned up at the Rafah border on Wednesday. A Norwegian emergency team is ready to receive those who cross the border. The team has medical personnel, embassy staff and ID and document experts who can help those who lack the necessary documents, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Those leaving Gaza will then be taken to Cairo in Egypt, where a reception center has been set up. Among other things, health care will be provided here. – We will also assist with onward travel from Egypt to Norway, and if necessary accommodation in Egypt until it is possible to travel onward to Norway, writes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Not everyone is allowed to leave Gaza Around 270 Norwegian citizens and persons with Norwegian connections are in the Gaza Strip, according to the government. Around half of them are children. Only 51 of these are now allowed to leave Gaza. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide has previously told news that the reason why there are no more than 51 who are now allowed to be released is because it is happening in batches. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that they are continuing their work to allow Norwegian citizens to leave Gaza as soon as possible.
