A 9-year-old Thai girl, who was a passenger in the car that collided head-on with a truck on national highway 7 in Ål in Hallingdal, has been confirmed dead. The accident happened on 11 October. A 38-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man also died in the accident. The deceased were Thai citizens living in Bangkok. Many fatal accidents The stretch of road where the accident happened is fairly clear, and the bends are gentle. Although it was cold in the mountains, it was hot in the Ål area when the cars collided. According to the National Roads Administration, 47 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents on national highway 7 through Hallingdal during the past 20 years. In May, a man in his 60s died in an accident on the national highway in Nesbyen. Also in 2021, three people lost their lives in an accident. Unfortunately, this is a vulnerable area. We already know that. I get upset when you don’t choose to invest in a road that has such poor traffic safety statistics as national highway 7. The standard on the road is not good enough, it’s that simple, she says. She hopes the recent accident in Ål is what makes the politicians in the Storting open their eyes to the problematic stretch of road. – It is terrible that such accidents get attention, but sometimes it is necessary, says Vestenfor.
