Dressed in Setesdal jackets, this group of eight friends are ready for the wedding weekend in Geiranger. They are not invited to the party itself, but intend to bring it with them from the sidelines. – On 13 September last year, it was on the news that they were going to get married here. Then we found out that we have to book it, says Birger Kirkhus. So they put the annual friends’ trip here precisely, to catch the craziness that happens at the weekend. Today they are going down to greet when the bridal party disembarks in Geiranger. – We are mostly busy having a crazy fun trip, the four of us. So it was fun that we booked in for this wedding, because it’s a bit spectacular, says Jan Erik Kittelsen. The reason why they wear Setesdal jackets is because they are from there. In addition, they bet on being photographed. – To be honest, eight of us dressed the same, in a slightly non-traditional costume, so we hope to be in the picture, he says with a laugh. But not everyone was aware of why. – We haven’t heard of him before, but it’s cool. We tried to find out why these flags were together, it was an interesting mix. But it makes sense now, says Melissa Lee, from the USA. She says she didn’t know Durek Verrett before, but is now considering staying an extra day. – I don’t think it will take much to convince me to stay another day. We’ll stay here, that’s fine, she says with a laugh. It will be decorated with both Norwegian and American flags in Geiranger today. Now the guests are on their way to Geiranger, where the wedding itself will take place. Today they were up early to make the last preparations before the bride and groom arrive. – Now we are decorating a heart, which will be decorated with Norwegian and American flags, as a welcome to the bride and groom who will arrive today, says Katrin Blomvik Bakken, director of Geirangerfjorden world heritage. Katrin Blomvik Bakken put the finishing touches on the work. Photo: Remi Sagen / news She thinks it is extra nice that the bride and groom have chosen to have their wedding here. – We are very fond of the Royal House, and when they come to little Geiranger, and not least have chosen to have a wedding here, it can only be a party for us. Today, among other things, they have prepared a catwalk where schoolchildren from Geiranger, Eidsdal and Norddal will walk in the redesigned clothes. Blomvik Bakken also says that the controversies surrounding the wedding do not affect how they welcome the guests who arrive today. – No matter who comes to visit us, we must be a good host, that is our role. And what happens around us we just have to deal with. Published 30.08.2024, at 10.16 Updated 30.08.2024, at 15.20
