Geir Lundestad is dead – news Norway – Overview of news from various parts of the country

This is confirmed by Aftenposten from Lundestad’s family. Lundestad passed away on Friday this week, after a period of illness. Geir Lundestad was a historian, and headed the Norwegian Nobel Institute from 1990 to 2014. Lundestad received his PhD in 1975 at the University of Tromsø, and became professor of American cultural studies in 1979. From 1988 he was professor of history at the same place, until he in 1990 became director of the Nobel Institute. Thus he was also secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the Nobel Peace Prize, until he retired in 2014. Lundestad was Professor II at the University of Oslo from 1991.
