12 July 2023 at 08:42 PGA tops reprimanded in the Senate The PGA Tour’s management received harsh criticism when the cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia’s investment fund became the subject of a separate hearing in the US Senate. Tuesday’s session was held just over a month after the golf pact between the PGA Tour and Saudi-financed LIV Golf became known. The European Tour also joined the agreement. PGA deputy director Ron Price and board member Jimmy Dunne appeared in Congress to explain. The inquiry was chaired by Democrat Richard Blumenthal, and he was very clear about what he thought about the matter. – This is a regime that has killed journalists, imprisoned and tortured critics, fostered the war in Yemen and supported other terrorist activities, said Blumenthal. The PGA tour was a sharp opponent of the LIV tour until the parties abruptly joined forces to form a commercial subsidiary. Dunne revealed at the hearing that Saudi Arabia’s Investment Fund (PIF) is contributing “a significant amount” to the project. – It is over 1 billion dollars, he said when asked to be more precise.
