A real election bomb was dropped at Rauma Høgre’s meeting this evening. Gaute Grøtta Grav, who has no experience in politics, is running as a mayoral candidate for Høgre. – I think a lot about how Rauma should be and how good Rauma can be. It is no use sitting at home at the kitchen table and roasting and cursing. I have to get involved, explains the 43-year-old from Isfjorden in Rauma. Won and became presenter Grøtta Grav became a familiar face when he won “Farmen” in 2001. Three years later he got the job as presenter of the reality show which for a number of years has been one of TV 2’s most popular programmes. In his 20 years at TV 2, he used both boots and sequins as host of programs such as Frøken Norge, Villdyrlegen and Søppelkongen. – Won’t there be a big transition to renting a municipality? – Both and. I have a lot of experience from the business world. I have run my own company and been an investor in other companies. Running a municipality is about striking a balance and doing the best for the residents and the employees. I think I have a lot to contribute there. – I have never regretted leaving TV 2. Coming back to Romsdalen without having to rush to Oslo is an undivided joy. It’s fantastic to live here in Rauma, says the former Farmen presenter. Photo: Alex Iversen / TV 2 Is Høgre man It is no coincidence that the election fell on the Høgre party. – I am an entrepreneur and businessman. In addition, Høgre will protect nature and the mountains. We do not want any more development and must prevent wind turbines from ever coming here. It is important to me, he says. Now he is challenging mayor Yvonne Wold from SV, who is running for re-election. Grøtta Grav believes that his celebrity status can help him during the election. – I have a large network. I’m not sure how important it is for the mayor’s job, but I have a burning commitment to Rauma. I am a Rauma ambassador and always do what I can to promote the municipality to the whole country. Move home In 2013 he moved home to Isfjorden with his family. He lives there with roommate Cathrine Montero Moen (31) and their two children. The couple met when they both worked with “Farmen kjendis” in 2016. Grøtta Grav also has two daughters from her marriage to former “Farmen” winner Silje Hvarnes. – Moving to Romsdalen was an active choice. I wanted to leave the TV industry, but I would like to make small guest appearances in between. Being mayor is a full-time job and well, if I become mayor that will be what I do for the next four years. Thinks he is well qualified Lars Olav Hustad is leader of the nomination committee in Rauma Høgre and thinks Grøtta Grav is well qualified. – Rauma Høgre and Rauma municipality are lucky to get such a resource into political life. It will be exciting to follow him going forward and we have high hopes that he will be mayor in 2023. Hustad had no qualms about choosing a celebrity without experience. – Gaute is a very socially engaged person, and has good knowledge of what is happening in the municipality. He is interested in developing Rauma, says the former mayor. Together with Gaute Grøtta Grav, Lars Olav Hustad will ensure that there is more involvement in politics in Rauma. He has said to Åndalsnes newspaper that he thinks it is “unfortunate” that managers and middle managers in Rauma do not have residential addresses in the municipality. – You get an unfortunate distance from the work you do when you don’t live here, says Grøtta Grav to the newspaper.
