French citizen and permanent resident in Canada for twenty years,  Blandine Daux  was in Lisbon with her Quebec husband,  André Bergeron . They were celebrating André’s retirement when their vacation took a tragic turn on  September 3 , 2025, due to a devastating funicular accident.

Blandine Daux is among the  16 fatalities  from the tragic funicular accident in Lisbon. According to reports from French media outlet  Le Parisien , she had been a  permanent resident of Canada  for two decades, and the couple was in Lisbon marking this significant moment in André’s life.

Quebec media, including  CBC , shared statements from André’s brother,  Éric Bergeron , who expressed his profound grief and disbelief over the loss. He stated, *“It’s unreal. Imagine losing your two parents in one stroke. They spun the perfect happiness, and on the last day of their vacation, they died in a funicular accident.”*

Blandine was originally from the  Vosges  region of France. After pursuing studies in  archaeology  in  Strasbourg , she completed a master’s degree in  Paris  before launching her career in Metz. Seeking new horizons, she journeyed to  Canada , where she notably contributed to the  Quebec Conservation Center  over the past few decades.

In memory of her parents, their daughter  Violette  established an online fundraising campaign, stating, *“Thank you to all the benevolent souls who send us their love.”* This initiative highlights the family’s desire for support while navigating such an overwhelming loss.
