22 March 2023 at 10:07 Full fluoride ban in cross-country skiing and biathlon from the 2023/24 season It will be completely prohibited to use fluoride-containing ski lubrication in international competitions governed by both the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) and the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The confederations report this in their respective press releases. This will make it illegal to use fluoride lubrication in sports such as cross-country skiing, biathlon, combined and alpine skiing. FIS highlights the health risk and the effects on the environment as the reasons why they want a ban. FIS and IBU have worked together to develop a test method to reveal whether someone is using fluoride. – We are satisfied that we can now introduce a fluoride ban across all major competitions, says FIS vice-president Roman Kumpost. The ban takes effect from the 2023/24 season
