Errors in all the checked 10 different patient records distributed over 8 different days were reviewed. These were not randomly selected patients, but a sample where errors could be suspected. The State Administrator has now concluded that mistakes have been made in all cases. “We find that the hospital has violated the due diligence requirement for all the ten patients by not having had a sufficient overview of areas with a risk of failure, sufficient staffing, and ensured that the staff has had the necessary knowledge and competence about relevant procedures.” It is also the record keeping that has been wrong, it says. The management at the Hospital in Vestfold has received the report and has no objections to the factual basis, the county doctor writes. – Patients forgotten The shop stewards announced as early as January that the emergency center had major problems. Insufficient staffing, too small waiting rooms and lack of training were some of the key issues. Today, Aass-Engstrøm says that they are not surprised that the supervisory authorities have come to the same conclusion as them. – Working intensely with improvement CEO Stein Kinserdal writes in an e-mail to news that the hospital takes the challenges very seriously. – We work intensively to improve conditions, and a number of measures have been put in place to ensure that employees in the emergency center can provide proper patient care. Money has also been set aside to increase the nursing staff. In addition, the hospital has worked out an action plan in collaboration with shop stewards. The clinic management has weekly meetings with the shop stewards who gave notice, and experiences that they have a good dialogue. – We experience that the situation is now improving. The work with the measures in the action plan continues, and we follow the development closely, Kinserdal writes.
