– I thought I should look at them in connection with some complaints that appeared at the Norwegian Health Authority, but I couldn’t. That’s what Arne Bye says when he explains in court why he filmed the gynecological examinations. – There is no doubt that I crossed the line when I started filming. It is unethical and unacceptable. There is no reason to ask any questions about that. The accused filmed with up to twelve cameras during gynecological examinations at the doctor’s office. During a police interrogation, the defendant pointed out where he had placed five of the cameras in the doctor’s office and the associated examination room. It made me terribly tired, but I had so many work tasks and it was my way of focusing on taking all the shots. Then the defendant explains that the forced video gradually took over. – It took too much of my concentration. Sometimes I completely lose track of the camera. At least 5,500 hours of video The police have seized several cameras, several hard drives and memory cards in the defendant’s home. – The duration of the video files was a total of at least 5,500 hours, said prosecutor Eli Reberg Nessimo on the first day in court. Several of the video files show the former municipal superintendent placing and adjusting the camera inside the doctor’s office and examination room. – There is black tape over the part of the camera that lights up, explained Nessimo. Videos have been found of 77 of the 94 offended. Bye is not charged with filming his patients, but it is an important part of the evidence in the case, prosecutor Richard Haugen Lyng pointed out on Tuesday. – We have video recordings of the assault itself. In this respect, we have a rather special evidentiary situation in the case, in that large parts of the indictment are illustrated with video material. In addition to the video recording, the police found over 387,000 image files in the defendant’s residence. Published 07.11.2024, at 09.11 Updated 07.11.2024, at 09.26
