Heavy rains in Trabzon have resulted in significant flooding and landslides , particularly in the 2 Nolu Beşirli neighborhood. The old state coastal road has been submerged , causing traffic delays as water accumulates on the roads. This situation has led to nearly 50 vehicles and many local businesses being inundated, prompting ongoing water evacuation efforts by municipal teams.
IMPACT ON HOMES AND BUSINESSES
The relentless rain forced several vehicles to become stranded , while numerous homes and businesses ended up flooded . Rescue operations by municipal teams successfully freed individuals trapped in their vehicles and businesses. Currently, cleanup efforts are underway in the basements and ground floors of affected properties.
Damage assessments began shortly after the storm, especially for vehicles harmed in the Pazarkapı neighborhood’s parking lot. Flooding and landslides have also wreaked havoc in the area, with authorities from the Trabzon Water Supply and Sewerage Administration (TİSKİ), Ortahisar Municipality, and emergency response teams continuing their efforts.
83 FLOOD REPORTS RECEIVED
According to a statement from the municipality, 83 reports of flooding were received throughout the day, with emergency teams deployed immediately to address these issues. TİSKİ’s management, along with the Roads Maintenance, Parks and Gardens, and Fire Department, mobilized around 460 personnel , alongside 16 vacuum trucks , 20 canal cleaning vehicles , and 24 construction machines to combat the emergency.
Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution in areas where landslides and flooding may occur, especially around transformers and poles to avoid electrical hazards.
LANDSLIDES AND DAMAGES
Reports from Ortahisar Municipality confirmed that severe rain has led to floods and landslides in various neighborhoods. Many homes and businesses have suffered flooding, while retaining walls have crumbled and access roads have been cut off. Ortahisar Mayor Ahmet Kaya inspected affected areas. He described the situation as a serious disaster , noting the intensification of the rain starting at 4 AM, which resulted in flooding , landslides , and subsidence across multiple neighborhoods.
RAIN TRIGGERING FLOODING
Governor Aziz Yıldırım convened with municipal officials to discuss the ongoing challenges. He noted that heavy rain started around 3 AM, peaking between 63 and 50 kilograms per square meter by 10 AM, which led to significant water accumulation in certain areas.
This flooding caused substantial damage to businesses along the coastal route and in local schools, necessitating immediate evacuation measures.
MISSING PERSON SEARCH ONGOING
Search efforts continue for 72-year-old Hüseyin Aydın , reported missing in Çukurca. Governor Yıldırım shared that 278 calls for assistance were made to the municipality and emergency services, predominantly from the Ortahisar district.
Out of these, 139 were resolved immediately while others remain ongoing. Before the report of Aydın’s disappearance, authorities had confirmed that no individuals were missing.
DAMAGE ASSESSMENTS STARTED
Yıldırım confirmed that the treasury office has been instructed to commence damage assessments for residential and vehicle losses. Community members who suffered losses are encouraged to report to local authorities, including the treasury, agricultural offices, and AFAD.
KEEPING ROADS OPEN IS ESSENTIAL
With traffic issues persisting, Yıldırım urged residents to limit unnecessary travel, as emergency services may struggle to navigate congested routes. Schools have resumed normal operations, and public transportation will offer services free of charge until midnight, ensuring accessibility for affected residents.
POTENTIAL FOR CONTINUING RAINFALL
The governor emphasized the likelihood of scattered rain continuing but reassured the public that no severe weather alerts had been reported. Citizens residing near rivers and valleys are advised to remain vigilant given the possibility of sudden water surges.
The community faces a considerable recovery process ahead, with extensive damage assessment needed to restore normalcy in Trabzon.
