Flood risk in Southern and Eastern Norway – news Vestfold and Telemark – Local news, TV and radio

It is already wet and it will rain down in the next few days. In the South it will be worst. – There can be 20 millimeters of rain both today and tomorrow, says on-duty meteorologist Martin Granerød at the Meteorological Institute. And in some areas it will rain even more. It is wet in Southern Norway and Eastern Norway. Seal basins and culverts, and stay away from rivers and streams with large water flows, is the recommendation from NVE. Photo: H. Philip Hofgaard / news It can be up to 50 mm Especially in inland areas and in Southern Norway it can be extra bad. There it can be up to 50 millimeters. This corresponds to 50 liters of water per square metre, and is enough water to create stormwater. AUTUMN WEATHER: This is normal, expected autumn weather, says meteorologist on duty, Martin Granerød. Photo: Kamilla Pedersen / met.no This can become a problem if the water is not allowed to flow freely, warns Granerød. – Especially in areas where there is a lot of foliage over basins and drains, which means that the water cannot run away. Then it is necessary to remove this. It will mostly be cloudy throughout the country, and unsafe for rain or thunderstorms in most places. But on Saturday you can hope to see the sun again. Completely normal autumn weather The low pressure we are experiencing now is nothing special, we are to believe the meteorologist. It is autumn after all, and the rainy weather is as expected. Norway’s Directorate of Water Resources and Energy (NVE) has issued a flood risk warning at yellow level. It corresponds to moderate danger. The consequences can be local flooding and erosion damage in streams and smaller rivers. The advice is to check basins and gutters, and stay away from rivers and streams with a large flow of water. Rainy weather is good news for the water reservoirs. New figures from NVE show that the occupancy rate is now 76.5 per cent, which is an increase of just over one per cent in the last week. Here you can see how much the water level has risen from 28 September to 3 November in Sundsbarmvatnet in Telemark. May have consequences The insurance industry prepares for damages after periods of rainfall such as this. – We follow the notifications closely, and accept whatever comes. We are always on standby when these notifications come, says communications manager Bjarne Aani Rysstad at Gjensidige. RECOMMENDED MEASURES: Communications Manager at Gjensidige, Bjarne Aani Rysstad recommends that you check gutters and sumps. Photo: Mats Stordal / Gjensidige Rysstad also advises people to do what they can to limit the damage, but adds that it is not possible to protect against everything. Basements that are fully furnished and luxurious are filled with water, and this obviously has consequences. – Then you have to tear it up and dry it and build a new one. – Can the payments be shortened if one has not cleaned up properly before the autumn weather? – Generally, people will receive a full settlement. If no measures have been taken, there may ultimately be consequences for the compensation. But in the main, this type of damage will be fully covered, concludes Rysstad.
